Idea&history
FONOFEST is an annual music and sports festival. With 5 successful years behind us, FONOFEST has become one of the most popular
summer events in Latvia. It stands out from other summer festivals with its unique concept which encourages our youth to enjoy an active lifestyle. FONOFEST contributes a great deal to the subculture development, demonstrating live music and amateur sports as current spare time activities.
FONOFEST 2010 takes places on July 9-10. So far 50 bands from 8 countries have confirmed their performance, and the number will grow.
Unlike previous years when the festival headliners have been well known foreign bands, this year FONOFEST will focus on the most popular
Latvian bands to gather the crowd. We're expecting about 4000 visitors, which is in line with previous years' growth.
OUR AUDIENCE
During the last five years FONOFEST has become popular not only in Latvia, but also attracts visitors from abroad, mainly our neighboring
countries. The selection of festival activities makes the crowd very diverse, and this year more than before our goal is to offer something for all tastes and ages. The bands will cover all styles from blues and pop to rock and metal, arranged on several stages throughout the weekend.
MUSIC & SPORTS
Each year FONOFEST gathers a large group of popular and professional musicians, but an important part of our concept is giving a chance to promising new artists. For this purpose we have organized a special admission competition, which has developed into a winter-long set of
auditions at our own FONOCLUB- bar/ club with lots of live music and great crowd. This year alone we received 150 applications, and due to the large amount of great bands among them, FONOFEST will add another- third- stage for showcasing solely new bands. In addition, a 20 x 30 m large DJ tent is opened on both nights for the electronic music lovers.
Our headliner this year will be a heavy-weight in metal scene- Skyforger. It has signed with Metal Blade Records along with bands like
Unearth and As I Lay Dying. Since Fonofest will be the only Latvian summer festival the band will play this year, it will become one of the main events in the Baltic metal scene.
Sports activities this year will include beach volleyball and sand soccer tournaments, skateboard miniramp competition, show and open-ramp, paintball, rock climbing, bungee jumping, yoga and others.
